Little Christmas Stocking

  • Small amounts of red (R), green (G) and blue (B) yarn, or colors of your choice
  • Double-pointed needles to match size of yarn
  • With R, cast on 24 sts, work 4 rnds of k1, p1 ribbing. Mark beg of rnd and work 21 rnds in pattern.
    For pattern as shown: 
    Rnds 1 & 2: Knit with G.
    Rnds 3-5: Alternate sts of R and G (see photo).
    Rnds 6 & 7: Knit with G.
    Rnds 8 & 9: Knit with R.
    Rnd 10: Knit *1R, 2B, rep from * around.
    Rnd 11: Knit 2R, *3B, 3R, rep from * around, end 3B, 1R.
    Rnd 12: Knit 3R, *1B, 2R, rep from * around.
    Rnds 13 & 14: Knit with R.
    Rnds 15 & 16: Knit with G, dec 1 st on each side of center back in Rnd 15 (22 sts).
    Rnds 17-19: Rep Rnds 3-5.
    Rnds 20 & 21: Knit with G.
    Heel Flap:
    Place 11 sts on 1 ndl for heel, with beg of rnd in center; divide rem sts between 2 ndls for instep. Attach B, and work on heel sts.
    Row 1: Sl 1, k across.
    Row 2: Sl 1, p across.
    Rows 3-8: Rep Rows 1 & 2.
    French Heel:
    Row 1: Sl 1, k5, k2tog, k1, turn.
    Row 2: Sl 1, p2, p2tog, p1, turn.
    Row 3: Sl 1, k3, k2tog, k1, turn.
    Row 4: Sl 1, p4, p2tog, p1, turn.
    Row 5: Sl 1, k4, k2tog, turn.
    Row 6: Sl 1, p3, p2tog, turn. (5 sts rem)
    Instep:
    Place 11 instep sts on 1 ndl; with another ndl and R, sl 1, k4 (heel sts), knit up 5 sts along edge of heel flap (Ndl 1); k across instep sts (Ndl 2); knit up 5 sts along other edge of heel flap, k2 heel sts from Ndl 1 (Ndl 3). (26 sts total)
    Rnd 1: K to last 3 sts on Ndl 1, k2tog, k1; k across Ndl 2; on Ndl 3, k1, ssk, k to end.
    Rnd 2: Work as established.
    Rnds 3 & 4: Rep Rows 1 & 2. (22 sts rem)
    Work even for 8 more rnds.
    Shape Toe:
    Rnd 1: K to last 3 sts on Ndl 1, k2tog, k1; on Ndl 2, k1, ssk, knit to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1; on Ndl 3, k1, ssk, k to end.
    Rnd 2: Knit.
    Rnds 3–5: Rep Rows 1 & 2. (10 sts rem)
    On last rnd, knit across Ndl 1 sts with Ndl 3 so sts are evenly divided between 2 ndls. Break yarn and weave toe sts tog.
